A tragedy during Jean Grey's youth aroused her mutant telepathic and telekinetic abilities, powers he could not adequately control. Seeking aid, she encountered Professor Charles Xavier, who trained her to master her telepathy before recruiting her into his newly formed band of mutant heroes. Marvel girl proved a valuable asset to her fellow X-Men and fell in love with team leader Cyclops.
