The living embodiment of red-white-and-blue patriotism, Captain America, the creation of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, debuted in March of 1941. Frail, young Steve Rodgers was rejected by the Army during the dawning years of World War II, but his unparalleled love for his country led him to volunteer for a dangerous military experiment. Taking the untested Super-Soldier serum, Rogers was transformed into the ultimate warrior of physical perfection, and, donning a uniformm patterned after the flag he so dearly loved, was re-christened Captain America.
